Travelling is freedom - Basti´s global journeys

China

The size of a continent and with one fifth of the world´s population China can hardly be described as a country. Congested urban industrialized cities in the east, massive lush limestone landscapes in the south, the Gobi dessert in the north and wide, untouched Muslim regions in the west. I spent a month trying to get an idea of what this immense a country is like, especially trying to understand the mentality of its people and the way they live. I covered around 5000km to see more than just the big cities and left the country enriched, but also relieved, given the omnipresent state surveillance.
